Renegade's Pride by B.J. Daniels - #review

The renegade cowboy returns

It’s been nine years since Trask Beaumont left Gilt Edge, Montana, with an unsolved crime in his wake, and Lillian Cahill has convinced herself she’s finally over him. But when the rugged cowboy with the easy smile suddenly shows up at her bar, there’s a pang in her heart arguing the attraction never faded. And that’s dangerous, because Trask has returned on a mission to clear his name and win Lillie back.

Tired of running, Trask knows he must uncover the truth of the past before he can hope for a future with the woman he’s never forgotten. But if Lillie’s older brother, the sheriff, learns that Trask is back in town, he’ll arrest him for murder. Now Trask is looking for a showdown, and he won’t leave town again without one—or without Lillie.

MY REVIEW

The Cahill family are about as connected as people can get up in Gilt Edge, Montana.  Lillie co-owns a bar with one brother.  Another brother is the sheriff.  So when Trask is suspected of murder and decides to disappear before he can be arrested, I wonder if that was worse to the Cahills, or if it was the fact that Trask broke Lillie's heart.

Now I've been to Montana twice, but it's been a while.  It was so nice to visit there again in Renegade's Pride by B. J. Daniels.  Big Sky Country was as evident in the pages of this book as it was in Glacier National Park, a number of years ago.

I don't generally read a lot of romance novels, and generally go for mysteries or thrillers.  "RP" showed me that I needed to expand my reading horizons.  The pace was great, the story tight, and there was that added tension of  'will Trask or won't Trask' be arrested before he can uncover the real murderer.  The culprit must have been having kittens when they (I'm not giving ANYthing away here) discovered that after 9 years, they had a very good chance of being arrested finally for their crime.  So much for getting away with it, eh?

RP is definitely more on the spicy than the sweet side of the romance genre, so keep that in mind. Personally, I don't really care to read about other people having sex any more than I would want to walk in on it.  Having said that, I was surprised and pleased that there was actually a story line (and a fine one at that) in the book, and that the couple did other things than camp out in the bedroom.

The Cahills are a super, tightly-knit family.  I always love to see this in books, as family is also important to me IRL.  Will I return visit the Cahill family in other books in the series?  Absolutely!

MEET THE AUTHOR

NYT and USA Today Bestselling author B.J. Daniels was born in Texas but moved with her family to Montana at the age of five. Her first home was a cabin in the Gallatin Canyon and later a lake house on Hebgen Lake outside of West Yellowstone.

Most of her books are set in Montana, a place she loves. She lives now in a unique part of the state with her husband and three Springer Spaniels.

When she isn’t writing, she loves to play tennis, boat, camp, quilt and snowboard. There is nothing she enjoys more than curling up with a good book.

  1. I love when there is a real - and good - storyline in a romance novel. Following characters as they fall in love and experience life together is very enjoyable to me.

Thanks for being a part of the tour!
